 My latest work is a novella, a steampunkish (steam power isn't widely in use just yet though it is being used for large industrial purposes, like pumping water out of mines) variation of the Old West. However, technology is advancing FAST, faster than anyone knows, in the Union, which is what the nascent United States is called in this timeline. Yes, it's an alternate world SF steampunkish sexual bondage erotic romance set in a variation of the Old West. Now, that's a NICHE!

(Actually, I'll call it historical erotica since that's an ACTUAL niche that really exists.)

The basic story is two friends who have just turned 18 go out for a night on the town in Parados in the Republic of Geronimo (think west Texas). Being adult women in a society where religion is pretty much just reverence for nature (and hence sex guilt tripping does not exist) and there's something called "slave medicine" that is a safe, sure, easy and effective method of birth control, they're both looking to get themselves collared and fucked.

Because of course in this alternative world everyone is also into maledom/femsub, basically master/slave sex.

I had so much fun fitting all this into a traditional Old West story. The best part was where I lifted a character from a classic Western comedy movie and put her in my story as is, though in a slightly different situation. (A hint: the movie is not "Blazing Saddles" but it is also a very funny movie that satirizes Western tropes very effectively.)

I also had fun inventing some bordello tech in a world without steam power.

I'm also very pleased at how the cover came out. It's basically two images that have been merged to form one. I spent hours looking for the right stuff on the commercial art site I use and found these gems. It wasn't luck, really, I took some deep dives into some rabbit holes on the site to find just the art I was looking for.

And the sex scenes were fun, too. I built toward the big sex scenes by including short sexy scenes in which Matty and Arlene meet various friends in town, including one in punishment stocks who's getting vigorously "punished" at the time (she's basically free use while in the stocks) one who's a pony girl, and one who's a slave whore with a tale to tell about how she became one. By the time Matty and Arlene get tied up and have their big sex scenes with their hunky Masters, they are, well, "hot and bothered" barely describes it!

Of course, I could be lying about all this. But I'm not. Read the book and find out... I dare you!

So here ya go friends, another light-hearted kinky erotic romance. But one appropriate for Labor Day. In this story I tried to imagine what it would be like to live in a society where no one is insecure about having food, shelter and clothing and no one is required to work, and the work that is available is four six hour days out of an eight day week: in short, a four day work week and a four day weekend. (We could do this right now if we wanted to.) They have plenty of time for love.

Also in that world, BDSM is considered the normal way to have sex. It is, in short, a fun world. The story is about two people who go to the park, dance, have lunch and go to a sex dungeon and have all sort of sexy dungeon fun. That is literally all there is to the novella, though they have a LOT of sexy dungeon fun.

We don't live in a society like that, but Labor Day IS a three day vacation, so here's hoping you all have a wonderful time this Labor Day.

I'm releasing this one on both Amazon and Smashwords at the same time, a new approach for me. Normally I've been going with Kindle Unlimited on Amazon, which gets me paid for page reads by Kindle Unlimited subscribers, but at the cost of publishing ONLY on Amazon for at least three months. But I haven't seen that much action from Kindle Unlimited, and I've seen a lot of action on Smashwords, so I'm "going wide" as publishers call it.

 This is one of those stories that was inspired by a picture. This picture. (Link is VERY NSFW, do not click if you are somewhere where nudity is not acceptable.)

 And you have to admit, that’s one hell of a picture. Just look at the expression on the woman’s face, combined with the raw carnality of her ass and the glamorous modern beauty with which she presents herself.

But mostly, it’s that expression. Here’s how I wrote it up in the novel (it’s not a key scene, no real spoiler here):

Her expression, her indefinable way of carrying herself that hinted at incredible peace and tranquility, was the expression of someone who had found Nirvana, looking out at the world. People might call it self-possession, but what it actually was was other-possession. She had given herself to Michael. Literally, and what was left was a creature that utterly lived by Michael’s rules, and thrived that way.

That’s a lot to pin on an expression in a photograph, but that’s the writing game for ya.

God, I had the MOST fun writing this book. I wanted to create an alternate world where what's considered extremely kinky here is extremely normal there, and populate it with characters that ordinarily people can identify with, living ordinary lives but winding up in extraordinary situations.

So I took your typical high school love triangle, two guys pursuing the same girl, who isn't sure she wants to be with anyone, which would be very dull ordinarily … and instead of Earth with its vanilla dates, we have a world where everyone is kinky and temporary collarings, only permissible after a girl (or boy) turns 18, are how boys and girls hook up. And it's much more intense than Earth because a temporary collaring permits almost every kind of sex act between the boy, now a Master, and the girl, now a slavegirl, once it's accomplished. And with both male and female characters typically virgins when they collar or are collared, things get very intense, very fast

Yes, we are talking fun here. Lots and lots and lots of fun.

But as I worked on the story, a beautiful and original implication of the world I had created manifested itself. It completely changed the focus of the story. Certain aspects of the psychology of temporary collarings manifested themselves. I realized the psychological implications of this could make for extremely powerful sexual experiences. These experiences combine first sexual experiences, multiple orgasms and forced orgasms with sub space and connubial bliss, resulting in a psycho-sexual experiences so powerful that they transform those who experience them -- which turns out to be practically every woman on Collar World.

To put it simply, this story contains prolonged kinky sex that changes the characters' minds and lives.

Indeed, for some, including our heroine, it is a mystical experience.

I don't know if anything this intense is even possible in reality, but damn, damn DAMN it was fun to dream up and write about.

And the funny thing, after all is said and done, this story falls very nicely into the niche of erotic romance. The people on the cover very nicely represent their respective characters' situations.

And if this erotic romance is half as much fun to read as it was to write, I am going to be a very happy author. And you are going to be a very happy reader.

I finally decided it was probably the cover, made a few very small changes to it, and resubmitted it with a request that they reconsider the adult designation. After about a day I got a nice letter back saying they had decided to remove the adult designation from the book. A day later, it was gone. So now it's generally available.
